COVID-19 Update: Campus Recreation Facilities

By | November 15, 2021

The following message regarding changes to COVID-19 protocols in campus recreation facilities was shared with the College of Charleston community on Wednesday, Nov. 10,2021:

Dear Campus Community,

As we continue to see signs of improvement regarding COVID-19, we are pleased to announce today the easing of some campus restrictions.

Effective immediately, face masks will no longer be required while engaging in any physical activity within our campus recreation centers. The following capacity limits will be posted and enforced in the recreation centers:

  • For the Johnson Gym, the Silcox Gym and the George Street Fitness Center, the maximum capacity will be 60 people.
  • For J201 in the Johnson Center, the capacity will be 30 people.
  • The multi-purpose room in the George Street Fitness Center will be limited to 15 people.

This latest announcement follows an earlier update about modifications to COVID-19 protocols for indoor gatherings and residence hall visitation. These updates are positive signs that our collective efforts to mitigate viral spread on campus and in the community are working. But we must not let our guard down. In addition to other COVID-19 protocols, face masks continue to be required inside all campus facilities, with exceptions for our campus recreation centers discussed above.

Questions about campus recreation centers can be sent to campusrecreation@cofc.edu. General questions about the College’s COVID-19 response and plans can be sent to covid-19@cofc.edu.

Please continue to do your part to keep our community safe.

Sincerely,

CofC COVID-19 Leadership Team
