In an effort to keep you informed about the status of mumps on campus, the College of Charleston Emergency Management Team is providing this latest update: As of this morning, we have no new cases of the mumps to report among members of the campus community.
Since the outbreak was announced in late September 2019, the College has had a total of 77 confirmed mumps cases.
While we are pleased with this reduction in active mumps cases, we remain vigilant in our surveillance and are hopeful that this trend extends into the coming weeks.
In the meantime, it remains important to be aware of the symptoms of mumps and to take steps to keep our community healthy. To prevent the spread of mumps and other viruses such as the flu, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing; avoid sharing food, drinks and items such as eating utensils, cigarettes or vaping devices; and avoid activities that may result in saliva exposure.
