Update on Mumps Outbreak (February 5, 2020)

By | February 5, 2020

The College of Charleston Emergency Management Team is providing you the most up-to-date information surrounding the ongoing mumps outbreak on campus. One new case of the mumps was confirmed in a member of the campus community this past week.

Since the outbreak was announced in late September 2019, the College has had a total of 77 confirmed mumps cases, only one of which is still infectious.

It remains important to be aware of the symptoms of mumps and to take steps to keep our community healthy. To prevent the spread of mumps and other viruses such as the flu, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing; avoid sharing food, drinks and items such as eating utensils, cigarettes or vaping devices; and avoid activities that may result in saliva exposure.

The College has created a regularly updated FAQ that includes tips for hygiene and prevention.
